This map and accompanying documents are from the Quarter Session collection. It was made to facilitate the consideration of the stopping-up and diversion of three sections of bridleway and a footpath on the estate of J Walter Moseley of Buildwas. The roads are tinted in different colours according to a key (the Turnpike, roads to be stopped, new bridleway) and are numbered at strategic points with capital letters. The fields that are used to locate particular sections of lane or path are also outlined and named – Dovehouse Meadow, the Fegg, Cock Shoot Leasow and so on. Copses are named, too, and are used to help pinpoint the course of the lanes. The proposed diversions and the intended new bridleway are all described in a letter from Mr Moseley to the Clerk of the Peace and in a Notice of the Decisions of the Justices of the Peace, which was pinned on3 the doors of Buildwas and Shineton churches. Official documents and newspaper accounts are also included in the collection.
