tithe and parish maps
Introduction
Shropshire Archives holds the documents, originally stored in parish chests, for most C of E parishes in the county. Not all parish collections contain maps but, where they do, these can be extremely useful. Tithe maps and apportionments, available for parishes and townships, are such a useful source of information that Shropshire Archives has purchased a complete set of copies from The National Archives which can be seen on open access in our Reading Room on microform as can some other parish maps. Almost all of our parish collections can be searched on our on-line catalogue.
Maps are likely to be in the catalogue for each parish under the following sections: Benefice – F; Statutory Deposits – T; and occasionally in Poor Law – L; School – R; or Miscellaneous V. If you are checking references at the archives, the parish lists can be found in blue folders on the Search Room shelves.
